Peace Corps Eve

Last night was Peace Corps Eve. We got the rest of our shots and medications today and we fly out this evening. We will arrive in Niger on Friday after switching planes in Paris. There are no phones or internet access at our training site (where we will be for the first three months). 42 of us are going and we have already bonded a great deal. That should make our transition a little easier.

There are lots of other people waiting on the computers, so I'll leave this short.

Thanks for reading and thanks for all of your support.

I can't believe you are finally leaving on your great adventure. You have worked so hard to get to this point. Mom and I are so proud of you and love you so much. So many in your extended family have you in their thoughts and prayers. Be safe.

    All my love,
    Dad

  7. Well, this is it. You've planned, you've studied, and you've used your imagination as to what it's gonna be like. But of course the reality probably won't be like any of those. That's what's so great about the whole experience. I hope you make it to Bouza some day - I'm going to try to come over by next spring and we'll look you up. Looks like you're moving forward with Hausa ("Sai anjima") so I hope you end up in Hausa Land. Toe, madala, sai anjima, aboki.

  8. Subject: Safe arrival of Peace Corps Niger summer training class

Dear friends and family of our newest Peace Corps Niger family members,
I wanted to let you all know that the trainees have arrived safe and sound here in Niger. They arrived on time last Friday with all their baggage (a record) and are now safely ensconced at our training center in the village of Hamdallaye just north of Niamey. They seem to be settling in well and should soon be writing and sending off letters to you folks back home.

Please remember they will not have access to email or the internet during the next 8+ weeks of their training so be patient as mail is slow between Hamdallaye and the US.

We appreciate all the support you have given over the past few months getting your person ready to join us in Niger. We promise to pick up the work from here and take care of them for the next 2+ years.

    Cheers,
    Mary
